Freebie Alert: Backyard Conservation Book

For those of us wondering how we can improve our green living outdoors, the United States Department of Agriculture is offering a booklet that shows how farm and ranch conservation practices can be adapted for use in any size backyard. Ten conservation practices are highlighted, including: mulching, composting, terracing, and pest management. The booklet has an extensive list of websites and places to get additional conservation information and assistance.  Request to have one mailed to you; or better yet, download a copy to your computer and save on paper, packaging, and shipping.

Disclaimer:  Free samples are a good way to save green, but it's important to remember to also live green.  That means not requesting a multitude of items, just because they're free.  The items are often shipped with an excess of packaging materials and this is very wasteful and not good for the environment.  Furthermore, the shipping itself may include air or truck travel which results in harmful emissions and a large carbon footprint.
